TREES
I spent hours climbing up and sitting in trees as a child, watching the world above and below me. It felt like it was the only place I was safe, and free from humans and the chaos of growing up during the Vietnam war, Nixon, race riots, serial killers, mass shootings, and Phyllis Schlafly, who single handedly killed the Equal Rights Amendment in 1974. Growing up in Los Angeles in the 1960s and 70s was strange and full of contradictions.
Living on a farm in East Anglia means I am surrounded by trees. The more I learn about their connection to other trees, their ability to communicate and heal each other, the more interesting they become. Photographing them and playing with them using layers of natural materials that surround them makes the photomontage process endlessly engaging. The montage is one way to represent how all elements of nature are connected.
